What is the Oculus Rift?
The Oculus Rift - or Rift from the company Oculus - is a virtual reality (VR) headset that immerses its user into a three dimensional, computer generated environment.
Two lenses (one for each eye) create a stereoscopic view by using two perspectives of the same image. The brain then merges these two perspectives into one 3D image. Sensors inside the VR headset track the position of the users head, enabling the user to look around the simulation, further immersing and convincing the wearer that they are in said environment.
The setup and installation is very easy, simply put, you'll have to plug in 3 wires. Check out the user manual here.
