360 degree content is coming, are you ready?
The evolution of media consumption continues and right now video is king, but why? The answer lies in a videos ability to provide context, to broaden the story beyond the lady in the red dress. It’s able to show you the environment she’s in, who she is with. That’s a lot more than a picture can show you.
We’re already seeing progression in the medium that is video. It’s great to be able to watch a video of something that has happened but it’s past tense and so there will always be a disconnect between the story and the viewer.
Then came live video. Did you know that Facebook users spend 3x more time watching a Facebook Live video on average compared to a video that’s no longer live? Is that surprising, we think not. A live video is immersive, it places you in the crowd and in the moment. You’re living the story as it’s played out, the only issue is that you have to see it from the video maker's perspective. The content you see is dictated by the interest of the live streamer.
Fear not! 360 degree video is here now and it can be live streamed too. 360 content is still in it’s infancy, being refined and becoming more accessible produced. But what’s becoming more and more apparent is whether it’s placed on social media or within a headset at an event, 360 degree content is booming in popularity.
